More than anything else in the whole world, Henry Huggins wants a shiny new red bicycle to go zipping up and down Klickitat Street, just like his slightly annoying older neighbour Scooter McCarthy. The only trouble? Bicycles cost a small fortune, and Henry has nothing but a piggy bank's worth of small change. So Henry sets out to earn the rest, with one inventive (and slightly disastrous) money-making scheme after another — selling stray boxes of bubble gum at school, taking over Scooter's paper round with help from his enthusiastic dog Ribsy, and bidding at a chaotic bicycle auction with his loyal best friend Beezus and her pesky little sister Ramona Quimby in tow. Every plan seems to fall flat, until Beezus comes up with one brilliant, unexpected idea.
