Description:
Best friends Noor and Bachchu have a problem: no matter how hard they pray—Noor at the dargah, Bachchu at the temple—God always seems to favour the class toppers. So the two ten-year-olds hatch a clever plan. They'll create their very own God, one who knows nobody but them and has no choice but to grant their wishes. And to their delight, it works—the very next day brings an unexpected holiday from school! But unknown to the boys, the Babri Masjid has just been demolished, and their town is sliding into communal violence. When they head out to thank their nameless God, they find themselves caught in the middle of the riots.
Set in 1990s India, this is a moving, funny, and big-hearted middle-grade story about friendship, faith, and the senselessness of the boundaries that divide us. Ages 10+.
