Description:

It's 1899, and twelve-year-old May Amelia Jackson is the only girl ever born in her small pioneer settlement in Washington State. With seven older brothers and a love of adventure, May Amelia struggles to be the "Proper Young Lady" her family expects, especially when there's fishing to do, sheep to herd, and even real-life troublemakers to catch. As she dreams of far-off adventures and hopes for a sister of her own one day, May Amelia's spirited, funny voice captures the challenges and joys of frontier life. Inspired by true diaries, this heartfelt story blends humour, hardship, and heart.
