Rika Machida is a busy journalist in Tokyo who wants the biggest story of her career. Manako Kajii, a gourmet cook, is in prison, accused of killing several lonely men she charmed with her rich home cooking. Manako refuses all interviews but finally agrees to talk to Rika on one condition: Rika must cook the dishes she describes, starting with a simple bowl of rice with butter.
