This is a literary retelling of the Ramayana centred on Sita, giving voice to her journey from the great city of Ayodhya to the forests with her exiled husband Ram, her abduction by the demon king Ravan, her triumphant return, and the tragedy that follows. The novel also explores other marginalised women of the epic — Kaikeyi, Surpanakha, and Mandodari, offering a feminist meditation on duty, betrayal, infidelity, and honour, and women's struggle for autonomy in a patriarchal world.
